The Process

It was surprisingly difficult to make this picture, and since I'm a perfectionist,
I took months to work out tiny little details.  I know it still doesn't look all that much like Meg (Jennifer Wigmore),
but it was hard to change big things like face shape after I had already had them pretty firmly in place.

I probably could have made this in an easier way, but here are the steps I used.
(Obviously, there were many, many steps in between these,
but I didn't want to save it as a new picture every second! =))

Step One

I drew a sketch using the "draw" tool (with no fill, and 6-8 curve tracking).

Step Two

I changed the shape of the face, nose, and mouth and colored in portions with the paintbrush tool, using a medium to small size and some opacity.

Step Three

I changed the nose shape further and added more shading.

Step Four

I changed the face shape again and added more shading.
This is about where my brothers said it looked like a monster.
(Actually, they said similar things from the beginning. . . . "Eeww, what is that?")
I was hurt then, but now I'm inclined to agree. =o)
(The white face with those shadows and lines just looks kind of sick.)

Step Five

I used the paintbrush again to color in the face and dress, and drew the lace border pixel by pixel, pretty much.

Step Six

I made her eyes more closed, her mouth wider and pinker, changed the eyebrow shape,
changed the hair a bit, added a highlight on her neck, and added more shadows.
. . . I could probably work on it until I was 100 years old and still find differences from the photo, so please don't be too hard on me!
